Whadzen Carrasquillo

Growing up in suburban San Juan, Puerto Rico, Dr. Carrasquillo was always surrounded by a house full of pets—from dogs and cats to hamsters, turtles, and birds. This early love of animals, combined with a deep interest in science and medicine, paved the way for a career in veterinary medicine that has now spanned over three decades. Having started in the field at age 17, he has served in nearly every capacity of hospital operations, from kennel assistant to medical leadership.

Dr. Carrasquillo began the pre-vet program at Kansas State University in 1987 and earned his bachelor’s degree in animal science from North Carolina State University in 1992. He received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine in 1996 (Go DAWGS!) He is an active member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and the American Animal Hospital Association.

With over 30 years of experience in clinical practice and the veterinary industry, Dr. Carrasquillo’s focus has evolved toward leadership and guiding the next generation of professionals. He finds great fulfillment in mentoring younger veterinarians, sharing the insights gained from a long and varied career. His clinical interests include ultrasound, cytology and internal medicine.

Today, Dr. Carrasquillo balances his professional life with a love for discovery and life experiences. He is an avid world traveler and foodie, loves to read (space Sci-Fi preferred) and is a self-proclaimed techie who stays current on the latest technology and gadgets. Above all, he cherishes time spent with his family and his Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, enjoying the outdoors and following college sports.
